Who we are

AjaxUniverse ("we", "us", "the site") is an independent, fan-run editorial site about Ajax Amsterdam, accessible at https://ajaxuniverse.com. AjaxUniverse is not affiliated with AFC Ajax. The site is operated as a non-commercial fan project. Where this policy refers to a controller of personal data, that role is held by the operator of AjaxUniverse.

The short version

• We do not run a user account system. We do not ask you to create a profile, and we do not collect names, postal addresses, or phone numbers from visitors.
• The only personal data you actively give us is whatever you put in an email if you choose to write to us.
• Our pages are served as static files and load standard third-party services (Google AdSense, and standard hosting/CDN technology) which use cookies and similar identifiers.
• You can control or block most of these technologies through your browser, your operating system's ad-tracking settings, and Google's own ad controls — links are below.

What data we collect

1. Information you send us

If you email [email protected], we receive whatever is in that email: your email address, the message body, and any attachments. We use this only to read and reply to your message and to maintain a record of past correspondence.

2. Server logs

Like virtually all websites, the servers that host AjaxUniverse generate technical logs when a page is requested. These typically include the requesting IP address, a timestamp, the URL requested, the HTTP status returned, the referrer, and the user-agent string of the browser. Logs are retained for a limited period for security, abuse-prevention, and aggregate traffic analysis. We do not attempt to identify individual visitors from these logs.

3. Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and similar identifiers in two ways: a small number set directly by AjaxUniverse for basic functionality (for example, remembering whether you have dismissed a notice), and cookies set by third parties whose code runs on our pages. The biggest of those third parties is Google, in connection with advertising.

Advertising — Google AdSense

AjaxUniverse displays advertisements served through Google AdSense, a service operated by Google LLC and Google Ireland Limited. Google and its partners use cookies and similar identifiers to:

• serve and render ads on our pages;
• measure ad performance and detect fraud;
• where lawful, personalise the ads you see based on your visits to this and other websites.

As required by Google, we disclose the following:

• Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites.
• Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.

Analytics

We may use privacy-respecting analytics to understand which pages are most useful to readers in aggregate. Where any analytics service is used, it is configured to avoid storing data that would identify an individual visitor, and the data is reviewed only at the level of trends (page views, popular topics, referring sources). No analytics data is sold or used for advertising profiling by AjaxUniverse.

Third-party services in summary

• Google AdSense — for advertising. Cookies and identifiers as described above.
• Hosting and CDN providers — to deliver pages and prevent abuse. Standard server logs as described above.

Embedded media (for example, third-party videos or images served from external domains) may also drop their own cookies. Where any such embed exists on AjaxUniverse, the third party in question handles that data under its own privacy policy.

Children

AjaxUniverse is a general-audience football site. It is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in jurisdictions where that age applies). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, write to [email protected] and we will delete it.

Your rights

Visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK, and Switzerland (GDPR / UK GDPR)

You have the right to: access the personal data we hold about you; ask us to correct it; ask us to delete it; restrict or object to certain processing; receive your data in a portable form; and lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. To exercise any of these rights, write to [email protected] with enough detail for us to identify the relevant data.

Visitors in California (CCPA / CPRA)

California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected, the right to delete personal information, the right to correct inaccurate personal information, the right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising, and the right to non-discrimination. AjaxUniverse does not sell personal information for money. To the extent that the use of advertising cookies is treated as "sharing" under California law, you can opt out by adjusting cookie settings in your browser, by using the controls referenced in the AdSense section above, and — where shown — by selecting the "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" link in our cookie notice. All other visitors

Even if no specific law in your jurisdiction grants the rights above, we will accept reasonable requests to access or delete personal data we hold about you and respond as quickly as we can.

Retention

Email correspondence is retained for as long as we may reasonably need to refer back to it, and is then deleted. Server logs are retained on a rolling, short-window basis. Cookies have the lifetime described in our Cookie Policy.

Security

AjaxUniverse is served over HTTPS. The site has no user-account database to compromise. Email correspondence is held inside standard mail provider systems with their own security controls. No system is perfectly secure; if you believe you have spotted a security issue, please contact us so we can investigate.

International transfers

Email and analytics data may be processed by service providers located outside your country of residence, including in the United States. Where required, these transfers rely on standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards offered by the relevant providers.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we will update the "Last reviewed" date at the top of this page and, where the change is significant, post a brief note on the home page. Continuing to use the site after a change indicates that you accept the updated policy.
